Exeter’s Red Coat Guided Tours scoop a Certificate of Excellence
TripAdvisor have recognised the incredible achievements of Exeter’s dedicated team of volunteer Red Coat Guides by awarding them a ‘2013 Certificate of Excellence’.
This prestigious award places the Red Coat Guides in the top performing 10% of all businesses worldwide on TripAdvisor and is only given to businesses that consistently earn high ratings from TripAdvisor travellers.
“Being awarded the coveted Certificate of Excellence by TripAdvisor is a fantastic achievement for Exeter’s dedicated team of volunteer Red Coat Guides”, said Cllr Rosie Denham, Portfolio Holder for Economy & Tourism.
“The City is incredibly lucky to have such passionate guides, and I would like to congratulate them on achieving this award”.
In 2013 the Red Coat Guides are celebrating 25 years of leading free historic walking tours around the city. Exeter City Council has completed a programme of training and recruiting 13 new volunteer guides, who were presented with their red blazers by The Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor at the annual reception in the historic Guildhall.
The new summer programme contains 16 differently themed tours, which include Medieval Exeter, Cathedral to Quay and Forgotten Exeter. A number of tours allow access to places not normally open to the public, including the Bishop’s Palace Garden and the Custom House, with its impressive sweeping staircase and ornamental plasterwork.
Red Coat Guided walking tours operate daily except Christmas Day and Boxing Day and are free of charge. Tours depart from the notice board outside Abode Exeter (Royal Clarence Hotel) or from outside the Quay House Visitor Centre on Exeter’s Historic Quayside.
No booking is required. A full programme can be downloaded from www.exeter.gov.uk/guidedtours or requested by calling 01392 265203
