Devon’s own professional opera company has been boosted by the news of a new sponsor just prior to its first performance of the year.

Devon Opera has attracted the support of Exeter based Hawksmoor Investment Management who have agreed a one year sponsorship deal with the charity.

The announcement comes as the company prepares for an operatic extravaganza at Bovey Castle, Moretonhampstead, on Saturday 1 March when they will present an evening of extracts from works ranging from La Traviata and La Boheme to Madame Butterfly and Cavalleria Rusticana.

Hawksmoor is an independent investment management business that specialises in managing private client, trust and charity portfolios, particularly for clients of professional introducers.

Chief Executive, John Crowley said: “Devon Opera is a wonderful organization that not only delivers quite superb operatic performances and concert programmes at great value for money but also runs educational workshops and collaborates with several other charities to raise funds for a range of good causes.  We are truly delighted to become exclusive sponsors and to support something that Devon can be rightly proud of.”

Robert Hough, Devon Opera’s Chair of Trustees added: “Opera today relies upon grants, sponsorship and financial help from a wide variety of friends and contributors. Devon Opera has a valued core of such benefactors whose continued help, in cash or in kind, is deeply appreciated.  We are especially indebted to Hawksmoor who are now our exclusive performance sponsors and are making our production of Don Giovanni later this year possible.”

Bovey Castle’s Opera Evening and Dinner takes place on Saturday 1st March 2014.  Tickets are £95 and include a champagne and canapés reception, four course dinner followed by Devon Opera presenting a selection of scenes from Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni and Giordano.  Performers include Suzanne Manuell (soprano),  Anando Mukerjee (tenor), Roderick Hunt (narrator) and Jonathan Watts (pianoforte).
