Exeter retirement village celebrate Queen’s birthday with afternoon tea
Residents at Millbrook retirement village, in Exeter, which is owned by later living operator Inspired Villages, dressed in their finery and enjoyed a garden afternoon tea to celebrate The Queen’s 95th Birthday on 21st April.
Residents made the most of the sunny weather and enjoyed a ‘socially distanced’ afternoon tea of coronation chicken, smoked salmon, cream cheese and cucumber finger sandwiches. For the royal inspired menu, the village chef also prepared homemade fruit scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, homemade butter biscuits, a fruit cake and Victoria sandwich.
Resident Wendy Atkin, 77, commented: “The afternoon tea was splendid and all the hard work that went into making it, serving it and all the preparation of the garden was much appreciated.
“After a sad week thinking about the loss of Prince Phillip and what it must mean to Queen Elizabeth, it was good to get together in the sunny garden and attend the lovely tea party arranged by Millbrook in honour of Her Majesty’s 95th Birthday.”
Rachel Tottle, Village Manager at Millbrook, commented: “The Queen’s birthday was a wonderful reason to get dressed up and enjoy the beautiful weather. The afternoon tea really was a feast fit for royalty and it was great to see residents catching up with one another and enjoying the easing of lockdown restrictions.”
Millbrook offers over-55s the chance to enjoy an active and sociable retirement in a welcoming, secure community, with the Devon coast and countryside on their doorstep. The village is home to a host of state-of-the-art facilities, including a relaxation pool, gym, cinema, and restaurant.
