Exeter youngster is runner-up in UK film award competition
Jimmy Stevens, just 11 years of age, who lives in Exeter, was the runner-up in the United Kingdom Aquired Brain Injury Forum (UKABIF) Short Film Award.
Announced last month, the Award, which is sponsored by Elysium Healthcare, is worth £250.
The lighthearted and entertaining film produced by Jimmy highlights the impact of his brain injury, and the difficulties of coming to terms with a new way of life.
Using Lego characters Jimmy illustratres how different his life has become since his ABI, how he is rising to the challenges in his everyday life, and how determined he is to ‘beat it’.
Jimmy received his cheque from Professor Michael Barnes, UKABIF Chair, at its Annual Conference at the Royal Society of Medicine in London.
Jenni, Jimmy’s mum commented: “This was fantastic for Jimmy. Just producing this film has had a huge impact on Jimmy’s rehabilitation. It’s helped Jimmy to process his injury and to be able to discuss the impact it has had on him, which was something he was reluctant to do previously”.
