Exmouth RNLI volunteers prepare for Open Day
The biggest event on the Exmouth Lifeboat Fundraising Team’s calendar, the lifeboat station Open Day will take place on Sunday 18 August this year. Situated on Queens Drive, the event will be held between 10am and 4pm.
Dedicated volunteers are currently busy organising stalls, raffle prizes and making produce to sell in order to raise money towards the launch and recovery vehicle appeal. As the new Shannon-class lifeboat is due early next year, this will be an opportunity to raise a large chunk of the £90,000 remainder needed for the vehicle.
The volunteer Sea Safety team will be on hand to provide free advice and a lifejacket clinic. When this team attended the Boat Jumble in April, one third of lifejackets inspected, may not have operated correctly when activated to save a life.
Crew volunteers and officers will be providing ‘all hands on deck’ during the event. They will be available to give tours of the lifeboat station and the all-weather Mersey-class lifeboat, Margaret Jean. The event is free to visitors and all are welcome to come and see for themselves what it takes to volunteer to save lives at sea.
Volunteer inshore lifeboat crew are due to give a demonstration onboard the D-class George Bearman, at some point during the event. However, this demonstration is dependent on weather conditions and operational availability.
(Please note: There is limited access for wheelchair users to upper floor and all-weather lifeboat.)
