Exmouth Tesco colleague inspires the nation
A Tesco employee from the Tesco superstore in Exmouth is to feature on a Mother’s Day card sold across the UK to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Elizabeth Reynolds has had her personal story and photograph included on a card designed by Hallmark. It is hoped that the card and Elizabeth’s story will connect with and support other people affected by the disease this Mother’s Day, as well as raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK. Elizabeth’s card can now be found in all large Tesco stores.
Tesco has been the proud partner of Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life for 18 years.
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring series of 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy and Pretty Muddy Kids events which raise millions of pounds every year to help beat cancer by funding crucial research.
This year, for the first time, Cancer Research UK is inviting everyone – women, men and children – to join the Race for Life events.
Elizabeth said: “I’ll be running for my mum who I lost to cancer when she was just 45 years old. Running with my daughter, we’ve completed the 5km at four races and 10km at two races to remember my mum, who’s always in our hearts.”
Hallmark, Tesco and Cancer Research UK will be presenting Elizabeth with a special framed version of her card to mark the occasion and thank her for sharing her story to inspire others.
Sarah Pickersgill, Head of Events Marketing for Cancer Research UK, added: “We are very grateful to Elizabeth and Tesco for their support. By following Elizabeth’s lead, and joining the Race for Life, everyone can make a real difference to people with cancer, right now.
“Race for Life events are fun, colourful and uplifting for all involved. Taking part in the events enables like-minded people to get together and remember loved ones lost to cancer, or celebrate the lives of those who have survived.”
Laura Washington, from Hallmark, said, “Every two minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer, so we know how important it is to raise funds and awareness of this disease that affects so many lives.
“This is the second year we’ve supported Cancer Research with a Mother’s Day card collection excusive to Tesco, and we are really pleased the range has increased significantly for 2019. The cards are a huge celebration of all the mum’s and grandmas across the UK, made even more poignant with the inspirational stories from some wonderful women at Tesco.”
The Mother’s Day cards are on sale in large Tesco stores until 31 March.
Thanks to everyone who raises money, Cancer Research UK can fund research to fight 200 types of cancer. The good news is that more people are surviving the disease than ever before. Cancer survival in the UK has double since the early 1970s, and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.
