Flood forum gets more than a trickle of interest
Delegates from East Devon’s Town and Parish Councils turned out in force for a Community Flood Forum event run by EDDC.
The District Council decided to organise the event after hearing from several Town and Parish Councils that it was something they would find useful. The aim of the forum was to give information to Town and Parish Councils on how to prepare for flooding, and how all the agencies involved could help them.
After the conference on Tuesday 23 July Councillor Peter Bowden, EDDC’s Champion for Flood Prevention, said: “Flooding is an issue that has been particularly important over the last few years, and is expected to be increasingly so into the future, so we all need to be better prepared.
“I’d like to thank everyone who came along. It was a really successful information exchanging event. We had some good discussions as well about how the agencies can help Town and Parish Councils."
Guest speakers were:
• The Flood Risk Team at Devon County Council
• Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service
• The Environment Agency
• The Cornwall Community Flood Forum
• EDDC’s own Emergency Planning Officer
Delegates also had a chance to tell the organisations involved what else they could do to make it easier for towns and parishes to prepare for flooding, and see some of the latest flood prevention equipment available.
