Free entry to Exeter's Heritage hotspots later this month
Some of Exeter's most fascinating buildings will open their doors to the public free of charge for Heritage Open Days later this month.
Heritage Open Days runs from Thursday 12 to Sunday 15 September. Many of the venues participating are not usually open to the public or otherwise charge an entry fee. It is a unique opportunity to explore these sometimes hidden, often curious, and always interesting places. This year 33 properties or events will be taking place throughout the City.
A selection of the properties opening their doors to the public free of charge include Exeter Cathedral, the Barnfield Theatre, Princesshay, 21 The Mint, Exeter Guildhall and Exeter’s Underground Passages.
Councillor Rosie Denham, Lead Councillor for Economy and Culture, said: "This event appeals to residents and visitors alike, it is a great opportunity for people to explore the city’s rich heritage, and also get a chance to see behind the scenes in places they would not usually get access to."
New events and venues opening their doors for 2013 include:
* a guided tour exploring the City’s Multicultural History
* an opportunity to see the recently refurbished Cathedral Library
* A brand new Red Coat Guided Tour exploring Exeter’s once world renowned Woollen Cloth Industry.
