Further rain causes sleepless nights for some Devon residents
Engineers worked overnight to try to stabilise the Grand Western Canal, which breached its banks after heavy rain in Halberton, near Tiverton.
20 families were evacuated after water breached the 200-year-old canal. Winds of up to 70mph are expected to affect Devon and Cornwall, with torrential rain and flooding predicted.
Devon and Cornwall Police said they closed the road through Halberton, while work to stabilise the canal was being carried out.
The Environment Agency said there are 50 flood warnings and 52 flood alerts in place across the South West.
It recommended road users not to drive through any flood waters.
