Get nominating for 'Giving Extra' awards
Halifax recently launched the third Halifax Giving Extra Awards – an annual award which recognises and rewards people who give extra to help people in their community.
Following the success of the previous two years of the Giving Extra Awards, Halifax will once again be celebrating people in Exeter who give extra. Anyone can nominate those who work tirelessly to support their communities from today.
Nominations for people from Exeter have already started to be made, including:
Greg Mimms from Exeter, nominated by Louise Mimms for supporting the Animals in Distress Centre and other charity causes through his running group, Greenbow Running Club.
Helen Turner from Honiton, nominated by Zoe Braunton-Turner for supporting 1st Honiton Scout Group. Helen is the Scouter in Charge for 1st Honiton Scout Group and she gets the whole Scout Group involved with doing things for their badge work as well as getting them out in the community helping to benefit the town and people of Honiton.
Craig MacLellan from Newton Abbot, nominated by Patrick Medhurst-Feeney for his work with Veterans With Dogs. He set up and runs Veterans with Dogs, working with dog trainers and local volunteers to run residential programmes for veterans that suffer with PTSD and their dogs.
As this is the Year of Giving Extra, Halifax is making the Giving Extra Awards bigger than ever before. Changes include celebrating more top prize winners, holding special Giving Extra Days in branches across the country, and introducing a new way to nominate people who deserve recognition.
66 Local Halifax Giving Extra Award winners will receive £300 in bonus bonds vouchers in recognition of the work they do for others in their community. From these winners Halifax will select seven regional winners – rather than just one national winner - and each of these will be provided with a grant of up to £5,000 to support projects that make a positive difference to communities.
Halifax Community Bank Managing Director Russell Galley said, “It is very exciting to launch the third year of the Halifax Giving Extra Awards and point the spotlight on exceptional people across the country. The stories of our winners from the last two years have been amazing and inspirational. We have received thousands of nominations for people who work tirelessly to support their communities over the years and look forward to hearing about even more.
“These inspirational people deserve to be celebrated and that is exactly what the Halifax Giving Extra Awards are all about. Celebrating and supporting individuals who contribute to good causes such as these is a key part of our Helping Britain Prosper Plan.”
Nominations close on 08 November 2015 and can be made in branch or online at www.halifax.co.uk/givingextraawards
