Teignbridge District Council is backing the eighth national Get Online Week which takes place this week (13-19 October).

The annual campaign aims to inspire people to get online and see what the internet could do for them.

Teignbridge District Council is promoting the use of its self-help area in its Forde House head offices so people can make their Teignbridge payments online.

Teignbridge has recently launched a mobile-friendly version of its own website which makes it even easier for people to pay, report and apply for things, plus more.

Whether you want to get a job, get healthy, get connected or get a bargain, getting online could help you do it. But there are still 9.5 million people in the UK who don’t have the basic online skills to make the most of the internet.

At a Get Online Week event everyone can get a helping hand to get to grips with the internet once and for all whatever their level of skill or confidence.

Hundreds of events will take place across the country during October from post offices to community centres, supermarkets to town halls, challenging thousands of people to see what they could do online.

Events are in libraries in Newton Abbot, Kingsteignton, Kingskerswell and Teignmouth and many others. You can find an event near you by calling free on 0800 77 1234, or find an event by visiting www.ukonlinecentres.com/centresearch.

Cllr Mike Walters, Teignbridge District Council’s executive portfolio holder for corporate services, said:

“Many of us do lots of things online, whether it’s shopping, sending an email or keeping in touch with relatives abroad. My daughter lives in Australia and it is wonderful to be able to switch on the computer and have a conversation with her. Being online is more about being able to shop, it’s also about staying in touch with people, learning more about what’s going on and paying for things.

“Here at Teignbridge we have a self-help area so people can make the most of the internet. Our customer services team are more than happy to help anyone carry out transactions and Get Online week is a great way to highlight how easily it can be done.”
