Help the rangers at Haytor

Join Dartmoor National Park Ranger Simon Lee on 10 January 2016 to help shake off that festive excess with a day of conservation work at Haytor.

The day begins at 10.30 and finishes at 3.30 but you are welcome to come along for part of the day if you wish. The day will involve work near the National Park Visitor Centre to benefit the bog hoverfly.

The bog hoverfly (Eristalis cryptarum) is an extremely rare hoverfly that in recent years has been found only within a restricted area of Dartmoor. It is identified in the UK Biodiversity Action Plan (UKBAP) as a priority species for conservation action.

This is the first of a regular programme of conservation work days planned for every second Sunday at Haytor. There will be plenty of variety with practical work being carried on habitat management and archaeological sites as well as keeping this iconic Dartmoor location looking good.

Conservation work days are a great way of getting healthy exercise in a fantastic environment and meeting like-minded people, as well as helping to look after this special place. You will also learn more about Dartmoor’s important industrial and prehistoric archaeology, wildlife habitats and rare species, moorland management and the work of the Ranger Service and all FREE of charge.
