Help write the next chapter in the Jurassic Coast’s history

People in East Devon and Dorset have the chance to have their say on how the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site is looked after in the future.

The management of the WHS is currently overseen and funded by a partnership including Devon County Council, Dorset County Council, and the charity, the Jurassic Coast Trust.  Its day-to-day work is done by a small team based at County Hall in Dorchester.

However, with pressure on council budgets and examples of communities taking a greater role in delivering services, the partners are looking at different ways the coast could be managed more effectively in the future. But before any decisions are made, the County Councils are asking communities along the coast for their comments on the options.

Councillor Roger Croad, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “As a World Heritage Site the Jurassic Coast is an important asset for East Devon, and Devon as a whole, so its future requires delicate consideration. We need communities to be part of this process which is why we’re asking for their views. I hope people take this opportunity to have their say and let us know how they’d like to see this beautiful stretch of coastline managed in future.”
