Hospiscare helps hundreds of Exeter families
Hospiscare nurses and doctors looked after 624 people and their families, living with a terminal illness in the Exeter area, during the past year.
The local charity which offers free expert help and support to local people and their families is joining 100 other hospices across the UK this week raising awareness of their work; it is Hospiscare Week during 6 October to 12 October.
Teams of Hospiscare nurses and doctors, specialising in end of life care, visit people in their own homes, in hospitals, in care homes and give 24-hour support at the Hospiscare Exeter hospice, as well as running day therapy centres in Exeter, Tiverton and Seaton.
Last year Hospiscare supported 624 people and their families from the Exeter area, Hospiscare nurses visited 479 people in their homes, whilst 169 Exeter patients were admitted to the Hospiscare hospice in Dryden Road.
Currently Hospiscare has 176 Exeter patients. Every year Hospiscare looks after 2,000 terminally ill people and their families in Exeter, East and Mid Devon and has helped a total of 22,500 people since 1982. Hospiscare works with people with a wide range of life-threatening conditions, including cancer, motor neurone disease and heart disease.
Hospiscare has seven doctors and consultants and 28 community nurses specialising in end of life care. A total of 1,097 volunteers provide a vital contribution enabling Hospiscare to offer a wide range of services; patient support, bereavement support, complementary therapies, chaplaincy support, administration, transport and fundraising.
Can You Help Hospiscare?
Here’s a really easy way to help Hospiscare. On Friday 10th October it’s National Bring A £1 Day to support your local hospice.
Hospiscare is asking people to Bring A £1 to their work places, schools, sports and community groups; simply ask family, friends and colleagues to Bring £1 and give it to Hospiscare.
