Housebuilder's donation to help mental health mentoring
Mental health services at Cranbrook Education Campus in Devon are set to receive a £500 boost thanks to the Community Champions scheme operated by regional housebuilder Persimmon Homes South West.
Laura Temple, who is a mentor to the pupils at Cranbrook Education Campus and applied for the funding, said: “We have seen a big rise in mental health issues among teenagers and the pandemic has only accelerated many of these problems.
“I work with many of the vulnerable students at Cranbrook and we regularly see young people seeking help with anxiety, self harm, eating disorders and other mental health issues. In addition, we work with those who are experiencing bereavement as well as those who are in care and have complicated home life situations.
“As Cranbrook is a new school, resources and budgets are tight and we are looking to buy a number of workbooks, courses and reference books that would be extremely beneficial to our students, but we needed the money to purchase them so applied to Community Champions. We’d like to say a big thank you to Persimmon Homes South West for providing the funding so we can obtain these items that will make a big difference in helping our students.”
Stacey Harris, sales director at Persimmon Homes South West, said: “We are pleased to be able to provide the funding for Cranbrook Education Campus to purchase the books they need so that this valuable support service for the students can be further advanced. Resources are stretched in many organisations at the moment and this is exactly the type of cause Community Champions was created for.
“We’d encourage regional charities, organisations and good causes of all types to apply to Community Champions. By taking a few minutes to complete the online application form, they could very easily find themselves being one of next month’s Community Champions.”
Each month the Exeter-based builder donates up to £2,000 to community groups across the region. This also happens across Persimmon’s other 31 operating areas, meaning up to £64,000 is dished out every single month – a total of £768,000 a year. Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
