Kirk Hills have an 'eggsciting' time
Last Friday, guests enjoyed a great event hosted by Kirk Hills, at the 11th Exeter Food Festival – and even the sun made an appearance!
The highlight of the event involved an omelette challenge, similar to that on BBC’s Saturday Kitchen. Celebrity Chef and organiser of the festival, Michael Caines, demonstrated how it should be done and even ‘slowed down’ for his audience to set his time – at 26 seconds - still the fastest of the evening!
For the challenge itself, eight contestants took part:
Sarah Chamberlain (Kirk Hills) – 38 seconds
Damian Cook (Stratton Creber) – 39 seconds
Sam Pounds (Harry’s) – 59 seconds
Dominic Hollingsworth (Kitsons) – 31 seconds
Andrew Maynard (Michelmores) - Disqualified
Robert Camp (Stephens Scown) – 1 minute 5 seconds
Keith Biggs (OTB Eveling) – 29 seconds
Tim Heal (Ashfords) - Disqualified
Congratulations to Keith Biggs from OTB Eveling who was the worthy winner on the night but a big thank you to everyone who was involved.
Michael Caines judged the competition despite being in fits of laughter throughout most of it. A lot of the eggs seemed to end up on the table, floor and contestants rather than in the pans themselves.
David Kirk from Kirk Hills commented: “We’re thrilled to have been involved at the ever successful Exeter Food Festival this year. Our event, hosted 150 guests and everyone has said that the omelette challenge was a great success!”
“We must say thank you to a few people who helped us make the event a success – to Harrys for their delicious canapés and great staff who kept us fed and watered throughout the event. We must also say a big thank you to Steve Haywood, our photographer who managed to capture some great shots of the night, especially the omelette challenge itself. And to Ben Clark from Radio Exe who was our compere for the night.”
