Why Volunteer?
Volunteering with the Citizens Advice Bureau is a great way to pick up skills, make friends and feel part of an enthusiastic team. And it’s not just worthwhile; volunteering can also be fantastic fun and hugely rewarding.
A Bit About Us
The Citizens Advice Bureau is the UK’s largest advice charity. Of the 28,500 people who work for the CAB service, 21,500 of them are volunteers. They take on a range of roles from giving advice to fundraising, admin, campaigning and trusteeship.
The Advisor Role
Without our trained volunteer advisers we could not continue to meet the demand for advice. Our generalist advice service looks at a client’s situation holistically as opposed to looking at their problems in isolation from one another. Advisers are given free training, both formal and on-the-job. Here are a few of the tasks you might expect to be involved in as a trained advisor:
interview clients
help them negotiate with people such as creditors or service providers
draft letters
make phone calls on their behalf
refer them to other agencies
possibly represent them in court and at tribunals.
What it takes
If you are interested in helping people, can give up to 2 days a week during a thorough training program and can commit to volunteer with us for at least 1 year we would love to hear from you.
