Mercure Southgate celebrates Beaujolais arrival

The Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel celebrated the arrival of Beaujolais Nouveau 2013 by cycling the equivalent distance from Exeter to Paris on a static bicycle to raise money for their nominated charity Hospiscare.

The staff at the hotel took it in turns to ride the static bike on Thursday 21st November between 7am and 7pm, covering 374 miles in 12 hours. The team cycled in 15 minute slots and were supported with donations from hotel guests.

Tamsyn Parsons, Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel Sales Manager, says, “The static cycle was a massive commitment from the staff but a great success. We have raised £500 through sponsorship and donations which will all go to Hospiscare.”

The fundraising committee at the hotel has raised over £5000 in the last six months are aiming to raise at least £10,000 for the charity through a number of events including a skydive and sponsored pumpkin carve. Further activities are planned including Christmas carol singing, car wash weekends and coffee mornings.

In addition to Hospiscare, the hotel supports a number of other charities including St Loyes Foundation, Contact the Elderly and Force and has held a number of events and fundraising activities for these charities over the past few months.

Beaujolais Nouveau 2013 was also served at The Southgate Hotel’s Biz Quiz on Thursday 21st November and is available at the hotel for a limited period.
