National Recognition for Local ‘Entrepreneur for Good’
The Co-Founder of the Life Chance Group and School for Inspiring Talents in Newton Abbot and Ashburton has been shortlisted for the ‘Entrepreneur for Good’ category in the Regional Finals of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.
Mark Escott, from Exeter, was shortlisted from more than 4,800 entries in the annual awards that acknowledges the hard work and inspiring stories of entrepreneurs across the UK.
It was Mark’s own entrepreneurial story that captivated judges of the prestigious national awards. Despite his chaotic childhood, and time later spent in the criminal justice system, he went on to achieve his vision to help transform the life chances of young people. In 2014, Mark set up the Life Chance Group from his kitchen table in Exeter and went on to open School for Inspiring Talents to support the growing number of children with complex social and emotional needs. Its innovative therapeutic approach to education supports the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of students aged 5-16 who have experienced childhood trauma.
Mark said: “I firmly believe that it was my own troubled childhood and lack of education that was the foundation for my mission to improve the services that support children who have had a difficult start in life. It has been an incredible journey to get Life Chance and School for Inspiring Talents established, and it is something that simply could not have been achieved without the supportive and talented team around me.” He added: “With so many entries this year, I am truly delighted and honoured to be shortlisted in the ‘Entrepreneur for Good Award’.”
The Awards have celebrated some outstanding entrepreneurs who have gone on to become household names. Previous winners include the founders of Grenade, Tangle Teezer, The LAD Bible, Clearscore & The Cambridge Satchel Company.
Founder of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, Francesca James, said: “We have seen some incredible finalists over the years, and this year is no exception. It really is one of the strongest shortlists we’ve ever had, and the fact that so many exceptional people have applied during such a tough year is a testament to the resolve and entrepreneurial talent that exists across the UK.
“Creating the shortlist out of so many wonderful applications was incredibly tough, so I don’t envy the judges who will now decide the regional winners. Everyone who has been shortlisted should be incredibly proud and we’re thrilled to be able to showcase their achievements.”
Winners will be announced in September.
