New e-cycling trails launched in breathtaking South Devon
Cofton Holidays, a five-star holiday park nestled in the heart of South Devon, is thrilled to announce the launch of four new coastal cycling trails. Carefully designed to cater to families and adults of all ability levels, the new cycling trails start from Cofton Holidays and take in the best of South Devon’s stunning coastal beauty.
From Blue Flag sandy beaches and dramatic riverside and ocean views to historic towns and villages, picturesque harbours, quaysides, and the stunning Exe estuary - there’s plenty to discover by bike or e-bike in the region. Largely traffic-free, the new cycling trails can be completed in just a few hours and are ideal as part of a short cycling break in South Devon. To make these routes easier for families and holidaymakers, e-bikes are also available to hire, enabling travellers to effortlessly glide through South Devon’s breath-taking countryside and coastal sites.
The new cycling trails include options to stop off and enjoy several unique activities en route, such as:
Wildlife Spotting
There are ample opportunities for wildlife spotting en route, including the option to spot deer within the breathtaking grounds of Powderham Castle - a historic fortified manor house near Exminster. There also several breathtaking coastal nature reserves to be found, including the Exminster and Powderham Marshes. Here, lucky visitors can see fascinating birdlife, such as geese, ducks, waders, lapwings, redshanks, wigeons and warblers.
Quintessentially Devon Towns
Explore one of the many historic towns and villages along one of the new cycling trails - such as the charming village of Lympstone or the picturesque town of Topsham. Steeped in history, Topsham is a harbour town that boasts stunning views across the River Exe, beautiful architecture, a museum, and a popular antique centre. Ideal for nature lovers, the historic port town of Exmouth also offers a beautiful sandy beach and the 'World of Country Life' - a family attraction with animals, a museum, and vintage vehicles.
Blue Flag & Sandy Beaches
There are several breathtaking sandy beaches to be discovered en route, including the Blue Flag Beach at Dawlish Warren. Stretching out over 1.5 miles, this long beach with it’s golden sands is ideal for families and is an important nature reserve for local wildlife. Guarded by the RNLI the beach is safe for families to explore. Backed by gorgeous sand dunes, the beach offers excellent wild swimming and surfing opportunities too.
Gastronomic Delights
There are also several restaurants and culinary delights to whet your appetite along the new cycling trails. From casual pub lunches at one of the many public houses in the area, to afternoon tea at Susannah’s Tea Room in Lympstone, and fine dining at Lympstone Manor. Alternatively, grab a bite to eat at the River Exe Café Exmouth – an award-winning restaurant set ‘floating’ in the River Exe. There are plenty of options to choose from.
