New interactive information points installed in Exeter city centre
Up to date information is now available to visitors in Exeter City Centre via two interactive “monoliths”.
These new information points, which have been installed at Bedford Square in Princesshay, outside Costa Coffee, and on Sidwell Street, outside John Lewis, are similar in appearance to the existing red monoliths located around the city, except they have the added functionality of a digital screen display.
The display shows live departure information for Exeter St David’s and Central Stations, as well as information for local bus and park & ride services. There is also an interactive map which includes visitor and tourism information for the city.
The project has been funded by Devon County Council using section 106 developer contributions which were earmarked for providing public transport information, as well as a contribution from Exeter City Council.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “These monoliths are extremely useful for public transport users and visitors, as they show real-time information and an interactive map including locations of bus and train stations. They contain a wealth of information that’s available at your fingertips on the screen display. Hopefully it will encourage people to explore the city.”
Councillor Andrew Leadbetter, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Exeter, said: “Shoppers and visitors to the city centre now have all the up-to-date information they need to get the most out of a visit to Exeter. I’m sure these displays will prove popular.”
Councillor Rachel Sutton, Exeter City Council Lead Councillor for City Development, said: “This will help people to make best use of their shopping time, checking whether they have time for that last minute purchase or a cup of coffee before heading to the station.”
An additional monolith will be installed in St Thomas shortly, following completion of the recent improvements to Cowick Street.
