New road sign to be introduced
A new road sign which has been authorised to be rolled out nationally will be used in Devon for the first time next month (January).
The sign, which suspends parking and introduces no waiting and no loading restrictions, has been designed to be used at large scale events and schemes involving work by utility companies. The new sign means that traffic cones are not required.
From Monday 5 January, South West Water will be carrying out water main works on Church Hill in Honiton, between Weatherill Road and Marlpits Lane. The sign will be used around the site of this work.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highway Management, said: “The introduction of this sign enables us to move away from the use of cones, which can require a lot of resource to distribute and collect, particularly for big events. Around a quarter of the traffic cones used during Sidmouth Folk Week went missing during this year’s event, which illustrates that other options are needed.”
The work is expected to be completed by Friday 13 February.
