New toilets set for Exmouth seafront
State of the art toilets are set to be built on Exmouth seafront following the go-ahead from planners last week.
In addition the new East Devon District Council toilets will be open all year round and include both disabled and baby changing facilities.
The existing toilets, that are costly to maintain and do not meet current British Standards, will be demolished this week. The new toilets will be constructed and open by Easter.
During construction and as an ongoing additional facility, EDDC is making the toilets at The Pavilion available to the public, subject to the building's opening hours.
The new toilets will contain six unisex cubicles, one male urinal, one unisex accessible WC, and one unisex baby changing facility. These will be free and open to the public all year round, 8am to 10pm during the summer and 8am to 7pm during winter months.
Although fewer in number it should be remembered that the existing toilets are actually under-utilised with the ‘optional’ ten female toilets never actually used in the last three years.
The new Queen’s Drive leisure area will include shower, toilet and changing facilities as part of the water sports hub.
The new toilets, along with the refurbishment of the Old Lifeboat Station for Exmouth Rowing Club, forms the first part of the Queen’s Drive regeneration. The new leisure area is a key element of the Exmouth vision to change the town centre and seafront to establish the resort as an attractive 21st century destination for residents, businesses and visitors.
The £150,000 has been generated from the planning obligations that come from the sale of the Elizabeth Hall site.
