New top cop appointed for Exeter, Mid and East Devon

Superintendent Chris Eastwood has been appointed as the new police commander to lead policing in Exeter, Mid and East Devon.  

Supt Eastwood has assumed responsibility for crime and community policing across the geographic area, which takes in towns such as Axminster, Tiverton and Honiton plus Exeter city centre.   He is supported by a 10-strong team of senior officers including one chief inspector and nine inspectors.   Supt Eastwood joined Devon and Cornwall Police in 1986 and has served in Plymouth, Cornwall and Devon in various roles.    He was the head of Call Management and Communications, local policing commander for Plymouth, and is experienced in firearms, public order and events command.   Since his appointment began he has met with many of his officers, staff and Special Constables, plus representatives from partner agencies.   “I am thrilled to take on my new role as commander for Exeter, east and mid Devon. Without exception I have been impressed by the dedication and commitment of officers and staff to deliver the very best possible service.”   Among the policing challenges in the area are offences of violence with injury linked to domestic abuse, the night time economy and antisocial behaviour.  “I will work tirelessly with my team to address these challenges and bring offenders to justice,”added Supt Eastwood. “My aim is to deliver the best possible policing service to local communities and to visitors to the area.   “I will be working closely with partner agencies so that we can maximise our collective impact to best serve our communities. The area remains one of the safest places in the country and I am committed to keeping it that way.”   Originally from Sussex, Supt Eastwood moved to the West Country at 18 to study and has stayed ever since.
