TV cameras recently descended on East Devon's Otterton Mill for the filming of a new series of the BBC's Celebrity Antiques Roadtrip. The Mill provided a stop-off point for antiques expert James Braxton and celebrity chef Phil Vickery, after a day spent in Devon hunting for antique treasures.

The visit will be featured in a new autumn series of the popular programme, which will be aired in the lead-up to Children in Need.

James and Phil spent several hours at the Mill, learning first about the milling process under the guidance of Head Miller Brian Hart. The pair participated in a hands-on experience of stone-grinding Otterton's signature wholemeal flour using the mill's ancient waterwheel powered by the River Otter. They then used the flour to make loaves with Baker Zac Laverick, before being treated to a cream tea.

Mill co-owner Caroline Spiller said: "We were delighted to be selected by the BBC to host Celebrity Antiques Roadtrip. We had a really enjoyable time with James and Phil, and they were charming company. I think they were both enthralled by the milling, and being able to take part in an activity that has a 1,000-year history on this site!"

She added "We're all looking forward to seeing the finished programme later this year, when Phil will be pitted against his wife Fern Britton as they compete to raise the most money for their antique finds at auction. We understand that the monies raised will be donated to Children in Need charities."

Otterton Mill has featured in a number of television programmes over the past few years, including: ITV's The Hungry Sailors featuring Dick Strawbridge, BBC's Escape to the Country, BBC South West's Spotlight in a feature about the Mill's volunteer millers; CITV's Farm Camp, which followed a group of children who swapped their city lives for country living as they discovered where their food comes from; and Channel 4's Time Team during an archaelogical dig at the nearby Dotton Mill.
