This Is Our City - a Liveable Exeter event

Liveable Exeter are inviting community leaders to the ‘This Is Our City’ speaker event at RAMM on 20 July. The event will encourage people within the city to enjoy the Brick by Brick exhibition, and most importantly, to have a say in the Exeter Plan.

The ‘Brick by Brick’ exhibition, which is currently on display at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, shows nine Lego models, each displaying how Exeter would have looked at a snapshot in time, from the Jurassic period when dinosaurs roamed, right up to the present day, and the future, which shows Exeter as a garden city.

Ian Collinson, Director of City Development said: “Liveable Exeter is a once in a generation opportunity to reimagine what the city could look like. The Liveable Exeter model, as you’ll see it in the exhibition, has been designed as a fun representation of just one of many ways we could do that.

“We will be using this exhibition as an opportunity to talk to people across the city about what they’d like to see in Exeter in the future and we’ll consider that feedback as we look to develop the new Exeter Plan. I am so excited to see this exhibition open and look forward to listening to what Exeter has to say about how we take our city forward. ”

Organisers of the event say that they are keen to encourage community leaders to come along and contribute to the plan and, in addition, encourage others in their communities to do the same. Attendees at the event will also hear from Exeter based Equality, Diversity and Inclusion consultant, auditor and international speaker, Maia Thomas, who will talk about the importance of diversity and inclusion when building new communities to ensure everyone in the community, including people of different backgrounds, abilities, and ages are heard.

Leader of Exeter City Council, Cllr Phil Bialyk said:

“Exeter has bold plans to build 12,000 new homes as well as to be carbon neutral by 2030. We can only deliver such ambitious plans if we genuinely have the input and backing of the very communities most affected by any change taking place.

“These plans are not short-term, they will impact many future generations living here so we need to ensure that as many people as possible know about them, feed into them, and can talk about them.”
