Police appeal after fatal collision in Axminster

Police have appealed for witnesses following a fatal collision between two HGVs in Axminster on Monday morning [29 April].

Emergency services were called at 5.50am following the head-on collision on the A35 Gammons Hill at Kilmington Cross.

Both male drivers were trapped in their vehicles.

One driver, a 54-year-old man from Winchester, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The other driver involved, a 36-year-old man from the Bristol area, remains in Derriford Hospital with serious head and leg injuries.

Police would like to hear from anyone who saw a white articulated large goods vehicle, towing a rust-coloured shipping container, travelling on the A35 from the Dorchester area into Devon between 4.30am and 6am on Monday 29 April.
