Talented writers from Ottery St Mary Primary School made judging a hard task in a competition organised by local coffee shop, Tickety-Boo.

Children were asked to write a story on the theme ‘My Tickety-Tastic Summer Holidays’.

Around 30 entries were received from schoolchildren in Foundation, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Amongst the many wonderful stories were tales of pixies, kittens, dogs, a missing snow wolf and a jungle tour in Thailand.

There were two winners in each group, plus runners up. The winners were:

• Foundation: Beth Hansford ‘Samuel Loves Fish and Chips’, Joe Childs ‘10 Little Letters’

• Key Stage 1: Charlotte Arkinstall ‘Princess Puggy Pants and the Invisible Crown’, Tasken Tapreha ‘The Rabbit and the Oak Tree’

• Key Stage 2: Hannah Logan ‘The Giant of St Michael’s Mount’, Ben Perry ‘The Boy and the Robber’

Judges included Tickety-Boo head chef, Dave Goldthorpe and Head Teacher Miss Purcell. Mr Goldthorpe visited the school to present the certificates and runners up prizes.

“The standard of entries was very high, making it difficult for us to choose the outright winners,” he said.

“Well done to everyone who took part in the competition, we thoroughly enjoyed reading all the stories.”

The winners will have the chance to read their successful entries to an invited audience at a special event to be held at Tickety-Boo.
