Probation Service officer up for national award

A probation service officer from Exeter has been shortlisted for a major national award.

Laura Greenhill, 47, has been shortlisted for a Butler Trust Award, which recognises and celebrates outstanding dedication, skill and creativity by people working in prisons, probation and youth justice settings across the UK.

The recognition is a result of Laura’s hard work to deliver and develop probation work at the city’s recently refurbished CoLab community and wellbeing hub at Wat Tyler House in King William Street.

Laura works for Dorset, Devon and Cornwall Community Rehabilitation Company (DDC CRC), who partnered with the building’s owner Exeter CVS to widen and integrate services on offer at the hub. As well as probation services, other support on offer includes help with housing, training, volunteering, debt management and health matters.

Since DDC CRC’s involvement with the hub started, Laura has been involved with numerous projects designed to help people turn their back on crime, including work to transform the hub’s outside space and a photography exhibition.

Laura said: “I am delighted to be shortlisted for this award. This collaboration of services under one roof is really paying off for the people who use it.”

Laura will now be interviewed by judges, with winners announced in the New Year.
