A reunion dinner and a Christmas buffet brought to an end a busy year for the South West Group of the National Service (Royal Air Force) Association.

During 2012 members enjoyed a series of lectures, trips, social gatherings and ceremonial events.

The talks covered a variety of topics such as the Penlee lifeboat disaster, meteorology and a presentation on the work of the Dartmoor Rescue Group, while visits included those to HMS Heron (the Royal Naval Air Station at Yeovilton) and to the 29th Commando Regiment, Royal Artillery, at the Citadel in Plymouth.

The highlight of the year for some members was their participation in the National Armed Forces Day event when they paraded with some 1,200 troops, veterans and cadets through the streets of Plymouth, with the salute taken by the Earl of Wessex.

Members also took part in parades at the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas and at the Cenotaph in London.

New members are always welcome, and those who served their national service days in the Royal Air Force can obtain details of Association membership from the SW Group Organiser, Derek Lord, at 24 Middlewood, Cockwood, Starcross, Exeter EX6 8RN or phone 01626 890207.
