Safety to be improved in Leat Street, Tiverton
A new zebra crossing is to be installed on the A3126 in Tiverton.
Work on the Devon County Council scheme, which will create a crossing at Leat Street, is due to start on Monday 13 January.
Crossing Leat Street is difficult for pedestrians at present, due to limited visibility of traffic exiting the roundabout with Kennedy Way.
The crossing is south of this roundabout and will provide a walking route linking the western area of Tiverton to the hospital, Tiverton High Street and Petroc Community College.
The £45,000 scheme, funded through the Local Transport Plan, will improve safety and promote safer walking to schools.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highway Management, said: “This is a popular route for people walking to school, college or into town and this crossing will improve safety and provide better access to the local hospital. The scheme supports school travel plans and addresses the safety concerns which had previously been raised by the schools and local residents.”
Work will be carried out by Bridge Civil Engineering Ltd.
