Shilhay wins Exeter Housing Charity of the Year 2013
Exeter Shilhay Community are the winners of Exeter Housing Charity of the Year 2013.
This award has been created to recognise the contribution made by the many not for profit organisations in the City who help people on a daily basis with their housing-related support needs.
Cllr Rob Hannaford, Lead Councillor for Housing and Community Involvement said: “Exeter City Council's Housing Service recognises that much of the work we do would not be as effective without the help and advice available through the many organisations in the City helping people with their housing-related support needs.”
The judges were looking for the entry which best demonstrated how the organisation made a difference to people’s lives, their partnerships with the wider community, innovation and future sustainability.
Exeter Shilhay Community showed the judges that their sustainable and holistic approach to tackling substance and alcohol misuse successfully transforms the lives of residents within the community.
The residents were actively taking control of their own lives at their own pace, receiving coordinated support from a wide variety of agencies across the City. Cllr Rob Hannaford, presented the award to Richard Crompton, General Manager at Exeter Shilhay Community at the Housing Challenges event held at The Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery (RAMM) on 10th January.
