Three scouts from South Devon have been invited to attend Exeter Racecourse’s Family Day next Sunday to help them raise funds for the 24th World Scout Jamboree, which takes place in the USA next year.

Ted Garry, Poppy Edwards and Megan Davies, who are all 14, need to raise £4,100 each to attend the jamboree which will unite 45,000 Scouts and Scouters from over 165 countries to promote peace, mutual understating and respect while participating in outdoor adventure activities and unique cultural experiences.

It’s a once in a lifetime experience for the three children who are all passionate about following the scouting traditions of conservation and outdoorsmanship and at Exeter they will be spreading the word about scouts while also raising funds with their putting and tin can alley games.

Ted Garry, a pupil at Kingsbridge Community College, said: "It will be really fun at Exeter and we hope lots of people come and have a go. All three of us are really pleased to have the opportunity to come to Exeter and also to talk to children about how great Scouts is and how our fundraising will help others from around the world to attend the Jamboree which will be a once in a lifetime experience.”

The racecourse’s annual family day is a feast of free entertainment for children with Tractor Ted hosting games, an appearance by the character Peter Rabbit, an Easter egg hunt, a behind the scenes tour and running races down the home straight plus seven horse races.

General manager Jack Parkinson said: “We’re really pleased to be able to help Ted, Poppy and Megan raise funds for their trip to America and we hope lots of people support them. It’s a great association as in July we host Devon Scouts week-long Run to the Fun 4 here, an event we are very much looking forward to.”

The fun begins at Exeter midday at Exeter. Two pre-booked Grandstand and Paddock tickets cost just £15 and children aged 17 and under race free. Visit www.exeter-racecourse.co.uk
