Spate of Burglaries in Ilfracombe

Police in Ilfracombe are investigating a series of burglaries where credit cards, TVs, laptops and even a car have been taken from homes in the area.


The burglaries which began in the New Year have targeted insecure homes usually during the night.


A police spokesperson said: “We are advising residents to be extra vigilant and ensure all doors and ground floor windows are secured at night, including sheds and garages.


“If anyone who has seen anyone acting suspiciously or has any information about this recent spate please let us know.”


Five homes have been broken into in the last three weeks with a range of items taken from each home.


A flat in Torrs Park was broken into sometime between 3pm on Monday 30 December 2013 and 5pm on Thursday 2 January 2014 and a black Dell laptop was taken. (Crime ref: CI/14/15)

A car was stolen after keys were taken during a burglary in Quayfield Road sometime between 4pm on Sunday 5 January and 2.40am on Monday 6 January.

The suspect drove off in the grey Rover 25 before abandoning it in the High Street and running off at around 2.40am on Monday 6 January.

He is described as in his late teens or early 20s, 6ft and thin build. (Crime ref: CI/14/21)

Between 5pm on Friday 10 January and 8am on Monday 13 January a property in Highfield Road was targeted. A flat screen TV and a number of DVDs were taken. (Crime ref: CI/14/44)

A frozen joint of lamb and a bottle of rum were among the items taken from a burglary in St Brannocks Park Road between 11pm on Monday 13 January and 8am on Tuesday 14 January.

Other items taken include a purse with a number of bank cards, three digital cameras (Sony, Kodak and Canon), a JVC Camcorder and Nokia mobile phone. (Crime ref: CI/14/50)

A black leather handbag was taken from a kitchen after a property was broken into in Whittingham Road between 6pm on Monday 13 January and 8.30am on Wednesday 15 January. (Crime ref: CI/14/55)
