Spend an evening stargazing in East Devon

The popular BBC Stargazing Live series has inspired people across the UK to spend an evening gazing at the stars! The TV show which aired last week (January 12th – 15th) introduced viewers to the wonders of the night sky.

East Devon District Council is proud to offer two sites which are designated ‘Dark Sky Discovery Sites’. Knapp Copse Local Nature Reserve near Putts Corner and Trinity Hill Local Nature Reserve near Axminster are officially recognised as fantastic places to discover the night sky.

Steve Edmonds, EDDC Countryside Team Leader (Sites) said: “TV programmes such as Stargazing Live are a great way to introduce members of the public to the wonders available on their doorstep.

“In East Devon, we are lucky to have Local Nature Reserve sites such as Knapp Copse and Trinity Hill which have little light pollution and are wonderful places to take in the most breathtaking view of the night sky. Over the summer months, visiting these sites at night, might also yield views and sounds of bats, nightjars and owls too.”

The East Devon Countryside Team is currently putting together the Spring/Summer Countryside events guide which will include stargazing and night walk events. The guide will be available across East Devon from mid-March.
