An Exeter School teacher has been awarded the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for Meritorious Service.

Mathematics teacher and Combined Cadet Force Commander, Dr Geoff Chapman was presented with the certificate over half-term.

Headmaster Mr Griffin said he had increased the school’s large contingent through his inspirational and efficient approach each week, on summer camps and Easter Adventure Training.

“He has modernised the corps, developing its activities to include a tri-service entry cadre, new uniform and DoE awards and overseen three successful biennial inspections,” said Mr Griffin.

“Dr Chapman gives unstintingly of his expertise to develop the cadets’ drill, weapon-handling, outdoor pursuits and sailing skills. He encourages and develops his staff officers.”

Dr Chapman said he was pleasantly surprised to be honoured in this way.

Various cadets have joined the services from Dr Chapman’s contingent, which has secured four Army Scholarships in the past two years
