Thousands expected at Exeter Respect 2014
Thousands of people are expected to visit Belmont Park in the city this weekend to celebrate Exeter Respect 2014.
Exeter Respect, city's annual celebration of diversity aims to use the performing and creative arts to engage the wider community in saying no to racism and all forms of prejudice.
This year's Respect promises to be as exciting as ever with a fantastic line-up of acts and activities taking place in Belmont Park from 12noon to 7pm on Saturday 31 May and from 11am to 6 pm onSunday 1 June 2014.
Belmont Park will be covered in beautiful decorations produced by a range of schools, community and youth groups. There will be activities and performances representing every part of Exeter’s culture, which is becoming more diverse year-on-year, with something to see or do for participants of all ages and backgrounds. This year Exeter Respect been sponsored by many voluntary organisations and public institutions.
This year’s event will also be alcohol free in order to preserve a safe and family friendly atmosphere at the celebrations.
Sam Kinsella from Ripple Effect, a recovery project for people in recovery from addiction said: "Exeter Respect is a family friendly open community event. The decision to free this from alcohol will create a safe environment.
“Ripple sees the impact of drugs and alcohol in young people and families and we support this decision.
“It is vital to have events where our community can be seen enjoying activities without the use of alcohol"
