Now everyone can have a Great Gorilla in their front room.

Four of Paignton Zoo’s popular Great Gorillas have been reproduced as limited edition hand-painted miniatures.

The Great Gorillas Project is celebrating the 90th birthday of the Zoo, which is a registered charity. The collectables are faithful ceramic reproductions of their life-size counterparts. You can choose from Herbert, Five Minutes to Midnight, Cool Ice Cream Bananas and Hippocampus Guttulatus.

Paignton Zoo spokesperson Phil Knowling said: “The pieces are approximately 16 centimetres long, 14 centimetres high and 8 centimetres wide - the same size as the models at Babbacombe Model Village. They are individually hand-painted and really well done - they make great mementos of a very special summer.”

Only 250 pieces of each design have been produced. They cost £24.99 each. In addition, an extra model - Spot The Gorilla – is also available. Proceeds will go to charity.

The models are available from the Living World Gift Shop at Paignton Zoo and Tradewinds Gift Shop, Living Coasts, both of which can be visited without paying to enter the attractions. In addition, they can be bought online through: www.greatgorillas.org.uk. A souvenir guide is also available.

Paignton Zoo is home to five rather larger male lowland gorillas - Pertinax, Kiondo, Kivu, N’Dowe and Matadi.
