
Two non-executive directors reappointed to Trust board
THE Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust is pleased to confirm the reappointment to the board of Tim Douglas-Riley CBE and Nick Lewis MBE as non-executive directors.
Tim Douglas-Riley has been reappointed for a further two years, until May 2017.
He joined the board in May 2013 and chairs the quality assurance and organ donation committees.
He is the Trust board champion for safety and quality and for safeguarding adults, a member of the safeguarding adults board and also a trustee of the Charitable Fund.
Tim is a qualified doctor who spent his professional career as a medical officer in the Royal Navy, in a wide variety of posts in the UK and in operational settings.
He held a variety of Ministry of Defence and Navy Command positions where he was involved in strategic planning of personnel, workforce structures, operational requirements and organisational change.
His final post was as director of the Royal Naval Medical Service.
Tim, who lives in Plymouth, said: “I have really enjoyed working with the Trust board, staff and stakeholders over the past two years and am very pleased to be given the opportunity to continue.
“I’m looking forward to helping the Trust meet the many challenges that lie ahead while continuing to provide high-quality services for local people.”
Nick Lewis has also been reappointed for a further two years, until August 2017.
Nick joined the board in August 2011 and is the Trust vice-chairman.
He is chairman of the audit and assurance committee and a trustee of the Charitable Fund.
Nick is the board champion for safeguarding children and the non-executive lead for procurement.
He is also a member of the finance and risk management committees and of the safeguarding children’s board.
Nick trained and qualified as a chartered accountant and worked in the service and construction sectors before becoming the director of finance for Devon and Cornwall Housing Association.
In 1999 he joined the newly-formed South West Regional Development Agency as executive director for corporate services and at various times also covered the executive director posts for development, enterprise, strategy and communications.
In 2010 he became the deputy chief executive of the agency.
He is an independent board member of North Devon Homes, a trustee of the National Marine Aquarium and a trustee of Homemakers South West.
Nick, who lives in Shobrooke, near Crediton, said: “I’m delighted to be continuing in my role as a non-executive director of the Trust.
“These are crucial times for the NHS and I’m keen to use my experience to help the Trust continue to deliver safe, sustainable services for the communities we serve.”
Roger French, Trust chairman, said: “Tim and Nick have brought invaluable expertise and insight to the board and it is great news that they are staying with us for two further years.
“I’m sure they will continue to make a big contribution to the work of the board and play a key role in the drive to improve services even further.”
