Update: Fatal Traffic Accident in Axminister

Update: A 45-year-old woman from Axminister has died after being involved in a serious road traffic collision at 7:45 am this morning.

A second woman aged, 56, is in 'critical condition' after their two cars crashed on the B3261 between the A35 and Axminster

The 45-year-old woman from Axminster who died was the driver and sole occupant of the silver Ford Focus. Her next of kin has been informed and formal identification will take place in due course.

The 56-year-old woman from Axminster was taken by air ambulance to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, where she remains in a critical condition. She was the driver and sole occupant of the grey Toyota Rav4.

The road was closed to allow officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit to complete their investigation of the scene and was re-opened at 2.50pm.

Emergency services are at the scene of a serious road traffic collision in Axminster.

The collision, involving two cars, happened on the B3261 between the A35 and Axminster, at around 7.45am today, Wednesday 19 March.

Police, fire and two air ambulances have been called, as well as the Highways Agency who are assisting with road closures.

Paramedics treated two casualties who were trapped in their vehicles and are seriously injured.

One of the drivers, a female, has been taken to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol by air ambulance.

The road is closed from the off-slip on the A35 and the start of the B3261, to the end of Axminster roundabout near the train station.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
