Watch winter wildlife on the Wetlands
East Devon District Council says nature lovers, bird watchers and anyone looking for a free fun day out in the fresh air at a beautiful location should flock to the Axe Estuary Wetlands on Saturday 22 February for Winter Wildlife on the Wetlands, between 8am and 3pm.
The day will start, subject to suitable conditions, with a demonstration by the Axe Estuary Ringing Group - a fantastic chance to see birds up close.
There will be Guides in the Hides all day – experienced birdwatchers who will help you polish up on your bird identification skills, whatever your level of knowledge. Birds you are likely to see at this time of year include Shelduck, Wigeon, Teal, Snipe, Redshank, Dabchick, Kingfisher, Little Egret, Cormorant, Heron and Curlew.
You will also have the opportunity to play Sand Martin Bingo and the Wigeon Migration Game, whilst EDDC’s Education Ranger will be leading craft activities for children of all ages.
There’s something for everyone – learn about future plans for the Wetlands on the Walk and Talk with the Wetlands Officer, check the camera traps for Wetlands wildlife or watch a demonstration of Swift boxes being made by our volunteers.
Tea, coffee, squash and cakes will be available.
The Axe Estuary Wetlands is between Seaton and Colyford with free parking through Seaton Cemetery. Entry to Winter Wildlife on the Wetlands is free. For more information call 01395 517557 or email Countryside@eastdevon.gov.uk
