Living in Exeter is great, but have you ever felt you'd like to give more back to the community?

They always say charity begins at home, and locally, we have a lot of people who are trying to raise money for good causes, from charities through to schools who want to offer local children the best resources for their education. If you are interested in offering time or money to help any of them reach your goals, here are some ways you can be more involved with local fundraising in Exeter, and play a bigger part in making our communities even better!

Use Social Media to Find Opportunities to Help

These days, charities, schools and other people who need to raise money tend to use social media as a way of spreading the word about what they are doing, and keeping their supporters up to date on how their generously donated funds are being put to good use. If you have a specific charity or school you want to help, then look for their accounts on Twitter and Facebook, and give them a follow – this way you'll see all their updates and know when there are events or campaigns you can be involved with. If you don't have a specific cause in mind but just really want to do more to help Exeter's various fundraisers, you can simply search for relevant accounts and follow them all! On Twitter, you can also make lists of accounts that relate to certain things, so you could start an Exeter charities list to keep those tweets separate from all the celebs you follow!

Remember that even just following these accounts and sharing the things they post plays a part in helping charities and schools raise money, as it helps them reach more people, so even if you can't help with money right now, this is a good way to support the things you care about.

Buy Merchandise!

Schools especially often use merchandise, for example the adorable Christmas cards from iqcards.co.uk which are printed off from the kids' own designs, as a way to raise money. Because a lot of the time this merchandise is stuff you'd buy anyway, like calendars and greetings cards, look for things you can buy that support local charities and schools. You can often find any merchandise you can get of this nature for sale on the school or charity website.

Go To Things!

Schools, churches, charities and youth groups tend to raise money by holding events, and all you need to do to support them is go along and have fun! Whether it's a summer fair or a Christmas bazaar, you can support local people by going along, spending some money, and telling as many people as you can about the event! Again, you'll know what is going on thanks to following the right social media accounts, so spread the word, take your friends, and have a good time while at the same time helping raise funds!
It can be really rewarding to support local people, so why not start being more active in the local community today!
