Drivers are warned to take extra care as the Met Office issue a yellow warning for fog across the region tonight.

Patches of fog, locally dense, will develop through Wednesday evening across Cornwall and west Devon, whilst cloud will lower to give fog over hills further east, leading to locally poor driving conditions.

Later in the night, increasing cloud and breeze will lift the fog into low cloud with only the highest routes affected by poorer visibility.

A chief forecaster said: “A frontal system will continue to move slowly eastwards across southwest England through the rest of Wednesday, to become slow moving over eastern parts overnight before returning westwards as a weak feature early Thursday morning.

“Clearing skies over Cornwall and west Devon will allow fog to form readily during Wednesday evening, whilst the cloud lowers onto hills further east. The boundary remains uncertain. Later in the night, increasing cloud and breeze will help to clear the fog except on the highest routes.”

Forecast for tomorrow:

It will be a cloudy start to the day with any patchy fog or rain clearing. It will then be dry, with cloud breaking to give some bright spells later. Maximum Temperature 12C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Cloudy with mist and drizzle at first on Friday, then rain and strong winds will spread eastwards later. Becoming clearer by Saturday morning when colder, drier conditions will be introduced.
