Woman seriously injured in M5 collision
Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision on the M5 at Cullompton yesterday (5 December) which left one woman seriously injured.
At 13.35pm a red Volkswagen Transporter van and a silver Vauxhall Tigra collided on the southbound carriageway of the M5 two miles south of junction 28. The van had been travelling on the northbound carriageway when it struck the central reservation, crossing into the opposite carriageway where it was in collision with the other vehicle. The female driver of the Tigra sustained serious internal injuries and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. The 36-year-old woman, thought to be from London, remains in a serious condition. The van driver, a 40-year-old woman from Exeter, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where she was later released following treatment. The road was closed for around nine hours and diversions were put in place. Officers from the Exeter Serious Collisions Investigation Unit have launched an investigation into the incident and are appealing for witnesses.
