World class riders and a local food fair at Bicton Horse Trials
A world class field will be in action at Bicton Arena’s first affiliated horse trials which takes place on April 25 and 26.
Run over Clinton Estate’s rolling parkland in east Devon, entries have been received from top names from the sport of eventing including multiple British team medalist Mary King, Sam Griffiths, a team member for his native Australia at London 2012, who has several rides including his talented mare Paulank Brochagh who competes at the highest levels of the sport and fellow Australian Paul Tapner.
The next generation of stars will be in action too including Emily, Rosie Fry, Millie Dumas and Flora Harris and visitors to the event will be treated to the thrill of cross country action, the grace of dressage and the accuracy of showjumping in classes ranging from BE90 to open intermediate.
Arena Manager Helen West, said: “We have nearly 400 competitors taking part over the course of the two days which is pleasing. We are hopeful that with the moderations made to the BE90, 100 and novice courses, which has made them much more confidence-giving for the more novice horses or riders, more people will be encouraged to head to Devon to compete in the future.
“Our facilities at Bicton are second to none, we rate them among the best in the country, and an increase in entries this year is encouraging. Support from the grass roots level of the sport has been fantastic and we are hopeful that we will gain more support in the novice and intermediate section.”
Sponsorship opportunities are available at the event, including programme advertising and banner space along the majestic driveway.
“It’s a great shop window with a captive audience of riders and countryside enthusiasts,” commented Helen.
There will be a range of trade stands and a local food fair, plenty of free parking, and excellent viewing. The action will start at 8am on both days and last until early evening. A stallion parade will take place on Saturday at 12 noon.
