Wyn and Peter celebrate their Diamond Wedding
Wyn and Peter Saunders from Crediton recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary with a lunch party at the Anchorage Hotel in Babbacombe.
The couple were both born in the London area and met at the South Bank University where Wyn was a student child nurse and Peter was a student dental technician.
They were married at St Matthew’s Church, Surbiton and honeymooned in Devon.
Both were evacuated to Devon during the war, Wyn to Morchard Bishop and Peter to Bideford. In 1967 they moved to Crediton with their four children.
Wyn later worked as an assistant for the infants at Haywards Primary School. Peter gave up dentistry to become a heavy plant fitter, but he sadly developed rheumatoid arthritis, and had to give up work when he was 50. Peter is known as The Bionic Man because he has had so many replacement joints fitted to keep him mobile.
The couple were dedicated members of Crediton Loyal Order of Moose and after it closed, they transferred to the Wheatley St Michael branch where they are still members.
Peter, 80, and Wyn, 79, have three daughters, one son, 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Instead of presents the couple received around £500 in donations for Exeter Leukaemia Fund. They were delighted to receive a card congratulating them from The Queen.
The recipe for such a long and happy marriage, the couple say, is simply caring and sharing.
