On Friday 27 February, Sandford Parish Hall hosted a sell-out quiz which was organised by members of Newton St Cyres Young Farmers Club and the Crediton/Witheridge branch of the National Farmers Union.

The successful event raised £1,745 for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) and the Farming Community Network (FCN).

Andrew Goodridge from RABI said ‘Devon Young Farmers are a real credit to the organisation. As a former member of Exeter Young Farmers, the evening brought back many happy memories and it was good to see the tradition of charity work still high on the agenda of the Young Farmer.’

The event saw 50 teams participate in the quiz written by past member Tom Davie, whilst everyone enjoyed drinks and pasties served by the members of the young farmers club.

The top three teams won prize money donated by the NFU, and their scores were as follows; The Happy Campers 92, Complete Harmony 98 and Johns Deeres 103.

Georgina Davie who organised the quiz said ‘It was great to see lots of people support our quiz, especially those who made such an effort to travel from across the County to attend.  The members and advisory worked really hard to put on a successful and enjoyable evening.  It is great to have such a strong partnership with the local NFU and we look forward to organising the quiz again next year.’

Georgina and her sister Emma, and Bow YFC member Alice Giles will be organising another quiz in May to raise money towards the Three Peaks Challenge which they are currently training for.  Alongside the sponsorship, the three ladies will be organising additional events to help raise money for the Farming Community Network and the new Devon YFC building in Cheriton Bishop.

The quiz will take place at The Waie Inn on Friday 1st May 7pm for 7.30pm start; teams of 4 are £10.  To book a table, or to sponsor the team, email georginadavie@hotmail.co.uk.
