Young Farmers raise funds for flood victims
Young Farmers from across Devon and the rest of the country, have been working together to raise money and collect forage for farmers affected by the recent floods in the Somerset levels.
Culm Valley YFC raised over £200 from members' donations at their recent Tight and Bright disco, which is being sent to the affected Somerset farmers. Meanwhile, Honiton YFC raised £4,500 at the performance of their production Gogglebox and through an Auction of Promises, with half the money raised being donated to Somerset farmers and the other half to Diabetes UK.
One of the upcoming fundraising events is a charity Big Breakfast organised by Axminster Young Farmers Club which takes place on Sunday (9 March) at Axminster Guildhall from 9am-2pm. Full English breakfast, cereals, toast, fruit and more will be available. £7 adults, £4 children. For more information please contact Alice on 07896 350 748.
Alongside all the fundraising events and support for the Somerset farmers many clubs across England and Wales have also already agreed to help out with a national clean up operation and are still collecting forage as it will be needed for a long time to come.
NFYFC’s National Chairman of Council Claire Worden said: “It’s inspiring to see the next generation of farmers pulling together to support the industry. It is devastating to see the impact the floods have had on people’s livelihoods, especially in Somerset."
