St Petrock’s announces date for The Big Night Out

Exeter's local homelessness charity, St Petrock’s, is inviting the community to participate in The Big Night Out, a charity sleep-out event designed to raise both awareness and funds for the charity’s work with those experiencing homelessness during what is the charity’s 30th year. The event will take place on Friday, 25th April 2024.

Last week, on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 September, Exeter City Council welcomed a team of national experts on the regeneration of historic cities and towns.

Celebrating Memories Baton Walk for World Alzheimer’s Month 2024

Exeter Dementia Action Alliance has marked World Alzheimer’s Month by holding a second Baton Memory Walk, visiting people living with dementia in care homes in the city.

The walk on Sunday 8th September coincided with the second anniversary of the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II. The two-hour walk concluded on Cathedral Green with a minute’s silence to remember both the Queen, and all those who live and lived with dementia.

Topsham Museum has announced its first-ever patron - Charles Courtenay, 19th Earl of Devon.

The Earl lives on the opposite shore of the Exe Estuary from Topsham, on the Powderham estate that has belonged to his family since 1325. He now runs this as an environmental heritage enterprise, sustainably managing the ancient land and buildings for social benefit.

He has been an active supporter of the Topsham community and its Museum for many years.

For the past nine months, Lisa Moore has been performing as Acting Chief Executive of the DCAA.

Pupils and staff at Exwick Heights Primary School , part of the Ted Wragg Trust are delighted to be the very first school to have taken up the challenge of providing Exeter Foodbank with some artwork for their new home in Cowick Street.

Members of the Art Club at the school put brushes to paper and created some colourful paintings for the foodbank to put on display. The foodbank’s new venue is brilliant but with white walls and grey floors throughout, it did need some cheering up!

Devon-based domestic heating oil company pledges to support Cornish and Devon pensioners affected by the end of the winter fuel allowance

Okehampton-based Moorland Fuels has announced that it is pledging to support those pensioners hit by the Government’s decision to end Winter Fuel Payments, by lowering the minimum quantity of heating oil that its state pension aged customers can order.

Introducing a new 300l delivery minimum - down from the industry standard of 500l - the change is designed to help pensioners with direct debit accounts spread the cost of heating oil this winter through smaller, more regular top-ups.
