Last week, local businesses and arts organisations gathered together to celebrate the launch of Cocktails and Culture at The Bike Shed Theatre.

Initiated by The Bike Shed Theatre, Cocktails and Culture is an event in which local businesses and arts organisations get together, learn more about each other’s plans and explore opportunities for partnership. Taking place every two months, each event is hosted by a different business which invites its contacts to meet in one of the city’s cultural spaces.

David Lockwood, Director of The Bike Shed Theatre said: ‘The way in which we engage with one another has changed. In our globalised society, we have become more remote from one another. This evening is a celebration of being in the same place, together so that we might understand how we can have impact on our local society. It’s also a celebration of generosity. This Cocktails and Culture is provided by The Bike Shed Theatre and Cartridges Law. The great thing about generosity is that it’s infectious.’

The inaugural event was hosted by Cartridges Law, based in St Thomas, Exeter and long-term supporters of The Bike Shed Theatre. Penny Scott, Managing Partner of Cartridges Law said: ‘We were delighted to host the very first Cocktails and Culture. Cartridges Law is deeply rooted in its local community and we believe that relationships between the corporate and cutural sector can be hugely beneficial to both parties. As sponsors of The Bike Shed Theatre we’ve helped develop its work with local artists and enjoyed being involved in many creative projects throughout the year. We hope that this event will highlight such opportunities to other Exeter businesses as well as offering the chance for others in the corporate sector to meet over a delicious cocktail or two!’

The next Cocktails and Culture event will take place in January 2017. For more information, contact kelly@bikeshedtheatre.co.uk
